Upper Gastrointestinal Exam
What is an upper gastrointestinal exam?
The upper gastrointestional (UGI) tract extends from the esophagus to the end of the small bowel. There are three separate x-ray exams that may be done to lool at the UGI tract.
These exams are:
- Barium Swallow, an examination of the canal in the throat that leads from the mouth to the opening of the stomach
- Upper GI, an examination of the esophagus and the stomach
- Small bowel series, an examination of the small intestine
